The Shadow & Treasure Of The Underworld

It is after darkness that we find the light. This new moon marks the entering into the ‘darkest’ season of the year, winter. The hardest part of ‘darkness’ is to face our shadow which contains the repressed parts of ourselves, such as our fears, desires, traumas, and beliefs.

In Chinese Metaphysics, a New Moon is…Yin. Quiet. Rest. Nourishment. It is the "night" of night. It is the beginning, the birth, the first day of the lunar cycle - making the New Moon a good time to start new habits & to commit or recommit to yourself.

The new moon is also known as the dark moon because it occurs when the moon is at its relative lowest point in its orbit as it passes between the earth and the sun, leaving us with a relatively moonless and literally dark night.

The idea of darkness is such a greatly under-appreciated concept in our modern world, often associated with “badness” or “wrongness”. We should not equate darkness with such negativity.

Instead when we think of ‘dark,’ think of it as dark like the womb. Dark like a cocoon. A state filled with mystery, transformation, renewal, and regeneration. Embrace it as darkness that heals. There will be no Light without Darkness and vice versa. If we understand the wisdom behind this, we can all have a choice to either absorb all lights or reflects them to grow and glow!!
